Los Tres Ojos, the first cathedral in the Americas and the streets of the Colonial Zone, with a Dominican lunch.
Santo Domingo is the oldest European city in the Americas. The tour starts at Los Tres Ojos, a set of caves and underground lakes that are surprisingly beautiful, then heads to the Colonial Zone and its most important buildings from the colonial era.
You’ll walk Calle Las Damas, visit the National Pantheon and the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, the first cathedral in the Americas, and get free time on Calle El Conde to shop for local crafts, mamajuana, rum or cigars. Then it’s time for a Dominican lunch: rice and beans, stewed or fried meat, fish and salads.
On the way back, you’ll get a panoramic view of the National Palace, Santo Domingo’s Malecón (the seafront boulevard) and the Columbus Lighthouse.
From $55. It includes round-trip air-conditioned transportation, entrance fees to the monuments, a certified guide and a traditional lunch.
Tuesday through Saturday. It departs at 7:00 AM and gets back around 6:00 PM.
To enter the Cathedral and the National Pantheon, everyone needs clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
